The Nanshan waste-to-energy plant is located on Mawan Avenue in Nanshan District, Shenzhen. The original profile describes a site of approximately 60,000 square meters and an investment of RMB 362 million. The project was approved in September 1999, construction began in October 2002 and operations commenced in December 2003. The entry lists two 400-tonne incinerators and a 12 MW turbine-generator unit, with a reported daily waste-treatment capacity of 800 tonnes and annual generation of 90 million kWh. The project was intended to reduce reliance on direct landfill disposal while recovering energy.
